Online Caregiver Support

Caregiver Resources - For the past ten years I have been a caregiver for my 97 year old mother and my late husband. Although my mother has been in long term care for three years, there is still an incredible amount of time devoted to her well-being. Caregivers need to care for themselves and there are resources to help. The links below will also include more resources.
Recently Paul Cavanagh posted about Caregiver Exchange. Learn more by going www.caregiverexchange.ca or by contacting Paul.Cavanagh@thehealthline.ca
Another excellent resource is the Ontario Caregiver Coalition (OCC) www.ontariocaregivercoalition.ca with coordinator Joanne Bertrand jbertrand@alzheimeront.org The OCC is open to organizations and individuals who share common caregiver support objectives. This website also features an extensive list of caregiver resources.
www.eldercaring.ca provides families with the necessary information and support to care for their parents, spouses or other elderly loved ones. Contact person, Audrey Miller provides newsletters with great information. She can be reached at amiller@eldercaring.ca
While there are numerous other resources, a favourite ongoing interactive site deals with problem solving. Although this question and answer site is American, a lot of the questions are applicable to any geographic setting. A question will be posed and other caregivers give their responses. Check it out at www.agingcare.com.
Being a caregiver is often not an easy job. Sometimes the system proves to be frustrating and sometimes the loved one can exhaust one’s patience. My hope is that these and other resources will be helpful.
