Osteoporosis Month November 2016
Posted October 24, 2016
Along with Fall Prevention Month, November is also recognized as Osteoporosis Month in Canada.
1 in 3 women and 1 in 5 men will experience an osteoporotic fracture in their lifetime resulting in a decreased quality of life and independence, fear of falling and an increased risk for institutionalization, hospitalization or death, along with contributing to the burden on the health care system.
By shining a light on the disease during the month of November, there is a hope that there will be increased education and awareness of osteoporosis thereby decreasing the amount of osteoporotic fractures in Canada through adequate prevention, assessment and treatment.
Keep an eye on Osteoporosis Canada’s website www.osteoporosis.ca for further information regarding Osteoporosis Month in November including ways you can participate and increase awareness in your environment.
