Head protection for frequent fallers.... that doesn't look like a helmet/medical device??

This morning I received a phone call from a man who self-identified as a frequent faller. He has a heart condition that causes fainting spells. He is worried about sustaining a head injury and is looking for some sort of head protection he can wear day-to-day. He was thinking about a modified hat with shock-absorbing padding inside. He has seen helmets used in hospitals but (understandably) he doesn't want to wear that out doing errands or to a dinner party. Does anyone have any ideas?
