Exciting things are happening in the Loop Library Service for members.

Posted April 20, 2017

Recently the Loop Library service joined the Health Science Information Consortium of Toronto (HSICT) as well as the Loansome Doc Inter-library loan service (ILL), provided by the National Research Council of Canada.

The Consortium (HSICT) describes itself as, “a collaboration of libraries and information centres in teaching & community hospitals, public health units, educational institutions and government and non-government organizations in the health sector. The largest consortium of its kind in Canada, we play a vital role in advancing health care by providing access to evidence-based information to over 70,000 employees in hospitals and other health care institutions”. There are currently 42 Health Science and Information Libraries on the membership list, with the Ontario Nurotrauma Foundation (sponsor of the Fall Prevention CoP) as one of them. The Loansome Doc Inter-library Loan service is described as the, “National Library of Medicine's (NLM) automated interlibrary loan (ILL) request routing and order referral system. It is used by health sciences libraries throughout the MidContinental Region, the nation, and the world to provide efficient document delivery service among libraries in the National Network of Libraries of Medicine (NN/LM)”. As a non-profit organization, having the ability to obtain Health Science materials from larger, more prestigious Libraries is a great opportunity for our smaller (but growing!) Library Service.

What this means to Loop members is an increase in the availability and access to Health Science Information, full text articles and contacts within the Healthcare Library and Information Community. For any of your Fall Prevention Information needs, please place a request through the Loop Library Service page. Services include Literature Searches, Reading Lists, Article requests and Critical Appraisal. All services are free of charge and is included in your Membership to Loop.

Look for more great things in the future, such as two Discussion Article series about Research and Loop Library Resources and Academic Article Auto Alerts for research topics and authors.

Hope to hear from all of you soon, and let’s keep the information flowing!
