We need your input! November is Fall Prevention Month, and it’s fast approaching. The Fall Prevention Month website features the Toolkit, Information of Older Adults and an INITIATIVES section.

Featured initiative #1

Ontario Health Promoter Alycia Kelly, shares her initiative below:

“For Fall Prevention Month 2017, the Huron County Health Unit is partnering with Huron County Library Services to make fall prevention resources available at all 12 branches throughout the County.

Staff at the County Library office was contacted for permission to distribute Fall Prevention Month packages, and the resources will be delivered to each branch via the library courier system, at no cost to us. The resources will be showcased at each branch for the month of November”.

Other potential sites to distribute Fall Prevention Month resources could be:

  • Hospitals

  • Doctor’s offices

  • Pharmacies

  • Dining for seniors clubs

  • Exercise centres

  • Long term care centres and

  • Community based health care centres

Even dentist, physiotherapy and optometry offices may be options! Lots of awareness opportunities.

Check out the Sample Activities section of the Toolkit for more ideas on how to use libraries as a way to get fall prevention messages out by using local resources.
