Inter LHIN Fall Prevention Collaborative Group
Progress Report
In February 2017 a webinar was held on Inter-LHIN collaboration on Fall prevention in older adults. The response was overwhelming, fall prevention practitioners were looking at ways to work together, to eliminate duplication and to increase capacity for practitioners across the province. Those attending were asked to give their opinions about the way forward for such a collaborative approach. There was a clear response that the two main areas of focus that were reported as important were:
• Knowledge sharing
• Provincial collaboration and oversight
In June 2017 a teleconference was held, which included a discussion of these results. It was felt that Loop (the Fall Prevention Community of Practice communication platform, www.fallsloop.com) could be used more effectively to share knowledge and that webinars could also be a useful tool. Participants were encouraged to use these methods, although no formal structure was determined.
A small group was tasked with meeting and determining a way forward to engage provincial healthcare leaders in forging a new collaborative approach. The group had a great starting point with the work done on the 2011 Provincial Integrated Fall Prevention Framework and Toolkit.
This small group has met three times, and is well on the way to having a proposed structure for a high level Ontario Fall Prevention Collaborative. Membership would come from leaders in LHIN, Public Health, government and other key stakeholder groups across sectors. The Collaborative will work to develop a systems based approach with consistent components for fall prevention planning and implementation in Ontario. Ongoing communication with webinar participants, Loop members and fall prevention stakeholders will be ensured and input will be sought when needed.
We would be happy to hear from you as we post progress reports on Loop!
