Fall Prevention in a Medical Detox Setting

Posted March 4, 2019

Hi everyone, I recently started working with a medical detox centre and we are looking for information on what has working in other similar settings. What kind of screening/assessment have you used? Do you have an inclusion/exclusion brochure or information that you share with referral sources that includes mobility/transfer abilities?

The centre that I am working with has patients stay 24 hours a day for an average length of stay of 7-10 days.  They have no lift equipment, only one hospital bed for their 28 patients - most beds are simple beds with no rails and no adjustment features.  Mobility aids are limited to walkers & wheelchairs. Nearly everyone has some kind of mobility issue when they arrive and fall risk is especially high in the first 1-3 days.

I would be interested in whatever info you would like to share.  Thank you!
