Are Ugg low boots safe on stairs?

Related to an Expert Witness report of mine, I'd appreciate hearing from anyone with experience or other knowledge of the safety of wearing Ugg low boots on stairs. Jane Brody recently commented in the New York Times that she was very sadly moved to trash her comfortable Ugg boots due to the risk of falls. My case involves an older woman injured on stairs in a major transportation terminal late at night.

"Uggs" is a term now used generically for shearling lined soft footwear, such as low boots. The user's experience can range on the continuum from feeling like sheepskin bedroom slippers to comfy snow boots.
