Virtual fall program assessment for frail Canadian community-dwelling older adults: Examining equitable accessibility

Posted June 23, 2023

Hi, I wanted to share this article on virtual fall program assessment from my colleagues at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre that you may find useful in your area of practice.

Here is the abstract and link to the article:

Virtual fall program assessment for frail Canadian community-dwelling older adults: Examining equitable accessibility. Weiss SM, Castelo M, Liu B, Norris M. Digit Health. 2023 Jun 7;9:20552076231178410. doi:10.1177/20552076231178410. In response to COVID-19, the fall prevention program at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre was modified to be delivered virtually. Thirty patients were assessed virtually and compared to 30 in-person historic controls. Median age was 80 years, 82% female, 70% university educated, and 87% used >5 medications. Patients assessed virtually were similarly frail as the in-person controls but had increased use of walking aids, medications, IADL assistance, and cognitive impairment.

Happy summer to all!
