Mobility aid vs. chair for stability in exercise class

Posted August 4, 2023

I currently teach falls prevention classes to deconditioned older adults who mostly use mobility aids. I have always performed both seated and standing functional exercises. When performing the standing exercises, we ask clients to stand, use their mobility aid to navigate to the back of the chair and hold the chair. For some, a chair is placed in front. I recently had someone cover my classes and they used the mobility aid for support instead of the chair. I am curious about what others are doing and why? What is more functional? What is safer?
