You are invited to submit an abstract for the 6th Canadian Fall Prevention Conference being held at the Bluma & Bram Appel Salon, Toronto Reference Library on April 9 & 10, 2025.

Hosted by Parachute and co-hosted by KITE/UHN along with support from CIHR’s Institutes of Aging and Musculoskeletal Health and Arthritis, we hope you will  join colleagues from across Canada at an event that will highlight new research and knowledge, explore the implementation of promising practices, and learn about cross-cutting issues to prevent and mitigate the impact of falls and falls-related injuries on diverse populations.

The 6th Canadian Fall Prevention Conference brings together healthcare professionals, academics, researchers, government representatives, public health/injury prevention and industry leaders working in fall prevention.

Call for Abstracts August 19 – October 31, 2024

Abstract Submission Deadline October 31, 2024

Abstract Decision Notification December 15, 2024

Abstracts are to address seniors’ fall or injury prevention, either as research studies or practice/community initiatives. Abstracts will be accepted as (1) Digital poster presentations with 3-min oral presentation, (2) Individual (oral) presentations (3) Panel presentations, or (4) Workshops. Each abstract may only be submitted in one category of presentation. There is a maximum of two (2) submissions per presenting author.

1. Digital poster and three-min oral presentation at plenary session

Poster presenting authors will be invited to present their poster in a 3-minute rapid-fire presentation plenary session. In this session, all accepted presenters will have 3 minutes to convey the main messages of their project to the audience. Posters will be displayed on screen during this presentation and posters will be made available digitally for all conference delegates. There will be time allocated on the conference program for delegates to connect with poster authors. NOTE: there will be no physical posters.

The Canadian Institute of Aging is providing three (3) prizes for student/trainee posters.

2. Individual (Oral) presentations

15-minute oral presentations (10 min presentations with 5 minutes for questions) will be accepted as part of the conference program.

3. Panel presentations

Presenters are invited to submit an abstract for an interactive panel presentation. Panels/symposia sessions will be 60 min in length, including a question period. Panels can include up to four (4) panelists and must have a facilitator/moderator. The goal of these panels is to focus on action/implementation – showcase what can be done right now or in the near future to address falls whether that’s new research, community programs or policy change.

4. Workshops

Submission of 60 min workshops will be accepted as part of the program. Workshops may be an in-depth session focused on a specific topic, e.g., implementation science, or address a fall prevention-related issue. The goal of the workshop is to provide interactive learning and/or skill-building activities. Workshops may include up to four (4) presenters.

We are hoping to offer a session focused on Indigenous fall prevention as either a pre-conference workshop or as part of the Conference program. To assess the level of interest, we’re asking for those interested to please contact Dr. Shilpa Dogra, Professor and Research Excellence Chair (Disrupting Human Mobility) at Ontario Tech University, at shilpa.dogra@ontariotechu.ca.
