Falls Prevention Education Delivery

Posted Le 30 novembre 2015

Hi everyone - I coordinate a community-based falls prevention program targeting independent, community-dwelling older adults. It's an 8-week program series that includes; an education component (delivered by a guest speaker who is a 'live' presenter), social/nutrition break, and 45 minutes of Tai Chi. The program takes place at KFL&A Public Health and we offer it twice/year. As far as I know, this model of delivery has not been evaluated, nor has our actual program, which we've been running for the past 10 years. This program was originally developed out of the Stay on Your Feet (SOYF) falls prevention initiative with funding from the Ontario Neurotrauma Foundation.

Our agency is moving towards technology-based sessions for the education component as opposed to the 'live' guest speakers. I am not 'pro' technology-based sessions (in my experience, older adults like to have a 'live' person that they can interact with and pose questions to) so my manager has asked me to provide research that would provide the rationale for continuing to provide the education sessions with a 'live' guest presenter as opposed to a video/DVD.

I am presently doing a literature review, and if anyone has any research or information that would be helpful, I would much appreciate it. Thank-you!
