Posted Le 6 octobre 2017

Fung Loy Kok Taoist Tai Chi® participants attended the End Falls This Fall conference in Orillia this week, telling more than 200 health professionals how Taoist Tai Chi® arts help with the prevention of falls.

Taoist Tai Chi® arts is a style of tai chi that involves:

  • Deep stretching with a full range of motion and continuous turning of the spine.

  • Exercising the whole physiology including muscular, skeletal, and circulatory systems, as well as tendons, joints, connective tissue and organs.

  • Better balance and posture, increased strength and flexibility, improved circulation, calmness and peace of mind.

  • Developing a body that is relaxed and strong at the deepest levels.

Health benefits of tai chi: What is the evidence? Published in November 2016 in Canadian Family Physician, the official journal of the College of Family Physicians of Canada, describes the results of more than 500 trials and 120 systematic reviews published on the health benefits of tai chi during the past 45 years.

It says systematic reviews of tai chi for specific conditions indicate excellent evidence of benefit for preventing falls, osteoarthritis, Parkinson disease, rehabilitation for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and improving cognitive capacity in older adults.

Systematic reviews of general health and fitness benefits show excellent evidence of benefit for improving balance and aerobic capacity in thosewith poor fitness. There is good evidence for increased strength in the lower limbs.
