We’re here to help you promote safe winter walking for the older adults in your area. We’ve done our research on safe winter walking and want to share with you! Background sources are all cited with the information factsheet collated by the Southwest Ontario Fall Prevention Network, so you know the information is evidence-informed.
All of these resources can be found in the Fall Prevention Month Toolkit.
Here are the resources you can use to create your own campaign:
- Read this article written by Emily Powell and published by Marketplace Magazine on Safe Winter Walking.
- Safe Winter Walking factsheet: A simple, printable fact sheet for older adults with tips on staying active and preventing injury during the cold winter months.
- A short PowerPoint presentation we encourage you to personalize and use. You could use the messages on a slide loop in a waiting room screen or add them to another presentation. Delete slides, add slides, it’s up to you! But please do tell us if and how you use it! The slides are fully adaptable so you can edit them and add your local information. Slides with humor and local scenery may help to connect with your audience.
- A safe winter walking display board can quickly be created. See this discussion post for Emily’s tips on how this was created.

- This poster was created by the Southwest Ontario Fall Prevention Network, but you can personalize it with your own stock photos and logo. You can personalize the poster below by emailing Emily Powell at E.Powell@publichealthgreybruce.on.ca.

This brochure was created by the Southwest Ontario Fall Prevention Network. There is a PDF version, which you may print as-is, using the Network's logo and stock images. Alternatively, download the InDesign file and adapt it with your own local information and stock photos.

If you are able to use any or all of these resources or would like to make an addition, please let us know by commenting on this discussion or directly contacting e.powell@publichealthgreybruce.on.ca or marguerite@thomas.name.
Please tell us what you think!
Are in-depth resources like this helpful? What other topics would you like to see?
Thank you for being part of Loop and for promoting safe winter walking.
