How can we reduce residents falling from bed in LTC?
Posted Le 15 janvier 2018
We are looking for some ideas to reduce the number of falls our residents are experiencing. The main problem we have at the moment is residents being found on the floor beside their bed. Have you had any success with reducing falls at the bedside? Have you tried any larger systematic interventions that have been successful? Are there novel interventions that have worked?
We have tried many things to reduce bedside falls including but not limited to:
• Toileting Schedules, Extra Changes or No Changes over night
• Reviewing Incontinence Products
• "First Up" designations for morning care
• White Noise/Music in room
• Body Pillows with and without fake arms
• Beveled Edge Mattresses
• Extra Wide Beds
• Night Lights
• Dolls, Dogs and Cats for company
• Medication Reviews, MD referrals
• Fall Risk Identifiers at bedside and on door
• Transfer Aids
• Mobility Aids
• Non-Slip Socks
• Bed Alarms, Chair Alarms and Shoulder Clip Alarms
• Safety Mats
• Hip Protectors
• Fracture Prevention with RD referral
• Exercise Programs and PT referrals
Any ideas you can share would be great!
