Fall Prevention Month - The Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging
Posted Le 29 novembre 2018
As Falls Month draws to a close, I wanted to draw your attention to an important national resource on aging that is collecting data on falls.
The Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging (CLSA) is a national, long-term study that aims to provide insight into the way Canada’s population is aging. The CLSA collects data from 50,000 participants, aged 45 to 85 years at baseline, over a period of 20 years. This data consists of biological, medical, psychological, social and economic factors related to aging.
Recently, the CLSA published its first report on health and aging, which includes a chapter on physical function, disability and falls. Among the key findings:
• Almost 5% of CLSA participants aged 45-85 reported that an injury had been caused by a fall in the previous 12 months;
• Women experienced a higher prevalence of injury due to a fall than men.
