The news piece tells stories we've also discussed in Loop, like
- people gaining strength and confidence in fall prevention classes such as ones at Toronto Rehabilitation Institute (TRI),
- the falls intervention team in Niagara's regional EMS paramedic and an occupational therapist checking in on frequent fallers,
- the science of falls studied by Stephen Robinovitch and colleagues at Simon Fraser University Injury Prevention and Mobility Laboratory, and their tests of wearable hip protectors and of low-impact flooring, and
- falls in the home, especially bathrooms as a high risk environment as Alison Novak of TRI points out, describing research she's doing on grab bars and slippery surfaces to make bathrooms safer.
There are many ways to share stories, news and to educate and inform people on fall prevention. Having CBC news, on radio and online feature fall prevention experts and their programs users could add to local news articles, events like health fairs and workshops, and to kitchen table chats about slips and falls.
