Hey! Do you see the link between oral health and falls? Do you think older adults should have better dental care?

Curious as to why Oral Health is on the Fall Prevention website? Without good oral health, it is difficult to have proper nutrition. Nutritional deficits can effect overall health and we know that worsening chronic conditions and frailty are serious risk factors for falls.
This is your invitation to do something positive regarding oral care for seniors. An informal group of health care workers, researchers, people with lived experience, and caretakers have come together as a book club to share the “Unleashing the IDEAVIRUS” book by Seth Godin. The basic premise is how ideas can be promoted and spread. We would like to do more to spread the idea that adequate oral care for older adults is a human right and access should not be denied. We will be meeting again in mid-to late August and would like to have new people join us. If you are appalled at dental costs, dental care and the lack of understanding about good dental care, please email me mthomas@parachute.ca and we will put you on the Zoom invitation list. We have completed literature reviews, noted the mandates of various dental associations and are in the process of a scope. That will be provided for you - shortlisted and brief - but we need your input, ideas and help. Our hope is to make things happen for Fall Prevention Month in November. Thank you in advance.
